Day 7 was a bad day, yo. So were Days 8 and 9. Stress was had, sugar was eaten. Tomorrow is Day 1 again. I am, therefore, mackin' down on the M&M's right freakin' now.

I went to see Cirque du Soleil's newest touring show, Varekai, last night. Aside from the fact that I found it almost completely incomprehensible, it was pretty damn cool. I normally don't have trouble following a Cirque show, but I have to say I had a little trouble figuring out who the hell some of the character's were. Namely, the weird man with the high, shrill voice who was dressed all in black and had a light bulb on his head, and the guy who seemed to be the master of ceremonies, the weird inventor guy who had grass coming out of his pants and a major uber-Alfalfa 'do. And there were these people in purple robes I *still* can't tell you their function in the whole thing, but it was still a pretty good show, especially the thing with all the fireflies that was *really* cool in the second act. And the magician and his assistant were friggin' hilarious. Cirque always provides a character or two who serve as comic relief, and these two are awesome. Especially the assistant, who is hands-down the best at hapless pratfalls and schtick that I have ever seen. Seriously, that girl is a gem. I was bummed they didn't do separate curtain calls for everyone, because I really wanted to hoot and holler for the girl, she was that damn good. I think the show still needs some work, because the synchronization was seriously off in places, but it was still a good show, and I really enjoyed it. Many thanks to The Boyfriend's mom and her boyfriend, who took us for TB's birthday. It was pretty neat. :)

I also went to BB King's blues joint this weekend and saw two "tribute bands." I think this is what they call impersonators nowadays, because the people were all decked out like the singers they were paying tribute to, they used all the same arrangements, they employed major costumes on one part, and they had their hair all the same, etc. One was a girl named Sara who sang Alannis Morissette songs and calls herself - are you ready? - Alannis More-or-Less. Isn't that cute? (No, it isn't. Just in case you were straddling the fence on that one, no, it really isn't cute.) She had a good voice and apparently also writes her own music, which I think she should probably stick to, but clearly the Alannis gig pays better than her own is at the moment. I hope that changes for her soon. The other band was called Face to Face and was a Billy Joel, Elton John thing. The Billy Joel guy was totally awesome, and so was the stuff they did together. The Billy Joel guy really ripped on piano. They packed the place in pretty tight and were a great time, so that part of the evening was decent, and a good time was had by all, even if my friend was totally freaking out over the lack of enthusiasm - or personality, for that matter - on the part of the saxophone player, who also wasn't a very good saxophonist, prompting my friend to rail that you can suck on the horn or have no personality, but you can't have both and still take up room on the stage. I personally figured she was new and just needed more practice time, but my friend having been a sax player had really strong feelings on the subject, so I just let it go.

Aside from that, I got nothin'. It was a pretty atrocious weekend most of the way around, so I'm actually lookin' forward to work tomorrow and marking this one down as done in the books. And as a sidebar, today's Anniversary Entry is the most often visited page in Katie Doyle History, the introduction to both the Excellent and Stupid Quote(s) of the Day (which I need to reinstitute) and Golfzilla. Enjoy.

Peace out,
Katie
