Or something like that; I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Jennifer Piston, Steve Rosenbaum, and the Mysterious Today Show Incident
So, someone sent me an email about the Today show cutting Tim Robbins off in mid-sentence while he and Matt Lauer were having a perfectly reasonable discussion stemming from Baseball Hall of Fame President Dale Petroskey not so cordially UNinviting Robbins and Susan Sarandon from what had been a scheduled fete commemorating Bull Durham's 15th anniversary. Curious, I searched the web for something to substantiate or refute the story.

I got bupkis. The ONLY things I could find that mentioned *anything* about it were Rosenbaum's written account and Ms. Piston's blog entry recounting her surprise at having seen the event. And while the two accounts vary in how the interview was going and the tone, they both come to the same conclusion, which was NBC abruptly turning off Robbins' mike and raising the music, effectively cutting him off and censoring his remarks.

But that's it. Nothing else. No Urban Legends entry debunking or supporting it, no other mainstream news outlet covering or commenting on it, no one to say "yes I saw it and it happened," or "no, that's not true, I saw the whole interview and nothing happened". It's freakish in its very void. I can't believe that of all the people out there keeping online diaries and weblogs, not one single person other than Jennifer shows up in a google search of the incident. All you turn up is Jennifer's blog, another blog where a friend of Jennifer's comments on Jennifer having seen it (you can get there from Jen's blog), and numerous reprintings of Rosenbaum's account. I'm telling you, it's a totally surreal, Twilight Zone kind of thing that there's absolutely ZERO to either refute or substantiate it, other than Ms. Piston's and Mr. Rosenbaum's corroborating statements as to its occurrence.

Just freakish.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've had a very busy day of pissing off the administration and earning myself a place on *several* government rosters by joining both the ACLU and the NRDC. Aaaaahhhh...my work here is done.
