And another list, because Tremors is on TNT.

6 of the Most Underrated Movies of All Time (in no particular order):

1. Tremors - Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, and a host of others, including Reba, baby. Giant earth worms with really big teeth accost a small desert "town." Spawned two sequels, one with Fred, neither with la Bacon. And btw, I know the guys who invented the 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon game, and it was NOT the geeks taking credit for it. But I digress. If you're looking for black comedy and lots of it, combined with fantastic scene chewing, this is the flick for you. Total fun; y'know: if you're into giant worm movies and cheesy comedy. It's even a little suspenseful and has a few good make-you-jump scares. Too bad Kevin doesn't make 'em like this anymore.

2. The Pirate Movie. The Blue Box of cheesy movies. Fraught with film gaffes galore. Kristy MacNichol & Christopher Atkins, rewritten lyrics, bad puns, gags that make no sense, 80's movie music, a British Bobby who suddenly goes all gendermey and does a parrot imitation...you gotta love it.

3. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Out Wonkas Willy Wonka. Plus, a flying car and Dick Van Dyke. How cool is that?

4. Music From Another Room - Jude Law, Gretchen Moll, Jennifer Tilly, and more. Now generally I hate Jennifer Tilly, and I won't even go into the Gretch, who drives me crazy and couldn't act her way convincingly out of a paper bag if you loaded her into a cannon and shot her thru the opening. But Jennifer breaks with her usual schtick in this one and actually acts like a real human being. It's a good, quiet movie Jude Law absolutely shines in. 4 *'s. Check it out, chicks.

5. High Fidelity - John Cusack, Todd Louiso, Jack Black, and more "cameos" than you can shake a stick at without degenerating into stunt casting. Written by Stephen Frears. EXCELLENT flick. A romance movie that manages to avoid sticky mush, so men can actually dig it, and girls can figure out why the hell men do the things they do. It's entirely possible this should be at the top of the list.

6. Empire of the Sun - Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Joe Pantoliano; directed by Steven Spielberg (before he started reading nothing but his own press and buying into it); screenplay by Tom Stoppard, in one of his more pedantic periods, which is good, because it's much easier to understand than say R&G Are Dead. If you don't get that reference, then don't worry - the movie's still great. I can't believe it didn't win the Oscar for '87. It's an absolutely amazing film, and Christian Bale is stellar in it. And I'm not just saying that because he grew up to be a hottie, either. So what did win, Katie, you ask.

Well, that brings us to the next list:

5 of the Most Overrated Movies up to Now (again, in no particular order, other than the one I thought of them in, which probably means I hate them most in the order given):

1. Titanic. Please. I can't believe there are people in this country who saw that movie 88 times in the first 2 months it was out. Get a life, people.

2. Life is Beautiful. Can you say trite, predictable, buffoonish, maudlin dreck? I know you can.

3. Apocalypse Now. Heart of darkness, my ass. WhatEVER.

4. Scarface. "Say hello to my leetle friend." Hello...and goodBYE.

5. The Last Emperor. I can not *believe* this won Best Picture of 1987. It's the longest, most drawn-out and hideously boring film in the history of film, with the possible exception of Apocalypse Now, which isn't as long, unless you count Coppola's director's cut.

Peace out. Popcorn to the People.
