Friday Finds...on Friday...woohoo!

My friend KJ makes the cutest, most adorable embroidered flower pendant necklaces on the planet, and will soon be offering them in kits too, just in case you want the thrill of making it yourself. :) The readymade necklaces are at the bottom of this page, and there are currently 4 to choose from.

I got embroiled in a copyright discussion over on craftster this week, and that led to the site for the USDA Online Photography Center, where you can download public domain photos of everything from portraits of kids to farm equipment for use on your own site or whatever other commercial venue you like (read the FAQ first, please!). There's also a historical photo section. And may I say, I am glad there were so many people willing to jump into the debate and speak out against the thievery of copyrighted work, but I was shocked how many people not only condone but encourage it. People, using someone else's art or work without their permission to make money for yourself is stealing, pure and simple. Please don't do it.

In addition to the USDA page, my favorite discovery of the week also came from someone's sig on craftster and is the artwork of Cynthia Schmidt, which she showcases and sells on her website, Indigo Art. Her art has a fun, whimsical feel to it, and her Cranky Cats pieces are hysterical to me, especially given Meows' perpetual curmudgeonliness. Cynthia's art captures the 'tude with the perfect amount of humor. I also like the less cranky pictures too, including Fish Soup and Cranky Cat, Inchworm, and Kitten. It's not all cats, but it is all whimsical, so give it a look. :) (the pages take a little extra time to load, but I think it's the design, not the graphics)

If you are looking to get a pet, please check out Petfinder, "[an on-line, searchable database and directory] of over 7,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the USA, Canada and Mexico." They have all kinds of dogs and cats, from puppies and kittens to older animals, and a great many of them are already housebroken or obedience trained and socialized to kids and other pets. I fell hardcore in love with one of their dogs this week, but I can't have a pet right now, so alas, I am left to pine, heartbroken and alone. Or...something.

If, like me (147.6, baby), you are dieting and having a helluva time staying motivated to eat right and work out, because let's face it, there's really not a ton of immediate satisfaction in it at all, try keeping something like this on your desk. Yick.

Having trouble keeping all your favorite blogs corralled into one easy-to-find list? Bookmarks getting outta control? Never fear, BlogRolling is here!

And finally, courtesy of my chica, Auntie Em, here's a handy little fun way to brush up on your 8th grade health class anatomy. So, you know, the next time there's a horrible accident or something, you can tell when you need to put pressure on something so someone's spleen doesn't explode. Or something.

(Hey; at least you'll know where their spleen is.)

Speaking of Em and all, I can't remember...have I mentioned my sick obsession with the movie Van Helsing yet? Since I left the Day Job From Hell and no longer have iTunes blasting Ice Ice Baby in my head every day, I had to have something to fill the long and empty hours (or something) and replaced that unholy attachment with Van Helsing, which Em and I get together phone-wise and watch every week. Like, we actually clear our schedules so that we can watch it together on the phone. Tonight, however, the movie is Underworld. Which is also bad, and is coming on in like a leetle over an hour, so I must go now. Talk atcha later, ay? Have a good.

Peace out,
Katie
