Ow. Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, OW. Did anyone else read about the doctor in a hospital in Houston who was decapitated by an elevator? He was getting on the damn thing at 9:30am when the doors slammed shut and pinned his shoulders and then the elevator took off and cut the guy's head off. Making matter worse - though not for him, I guess - another hospital worker was onboard already, and the elevator's state of malfunction was such that the poor woman was stuck with the severed head for another 20 minutes. I shudder to friggin' think. I used to stick my hands in the doors to catch the elevators in my office building until the UPS guy said to me one day "that's a good way to lose a hand." I thought about it and decided he was right and mostly quit doing it, though every once in a while I still do...or did. I think I've just broken myself of THAT habit... August 17 was a bad day for workers. The same day, a guy who owned an amusement park in NY was oiling one of the roller coasters when it caught his hair and lifted him 40 feet in the air before scalping him. He fell and landed back-first on a fence and died. Moral of that story I'm thinking is to not oil rides while they are in motion, but I don't mean to make light of the situation, by any means. Wow. And I thought I have bad days now and again. I'm rethinking that viewpoint. I have noticed, in looking up the elevator thing on the web today that there are a) an awful lot of callous dicks in the world, and b) an awful lot of religious zealots. I posted Paris, Day 2 last night and lost the entry, so it will have to wait. It's late. I know, I suck at posting lately. That's what happens when you're trying to start your own business AND scrounge up work to make money to almost live on. Peace out, copyright 2002
