I like Shakira. I really do. She looks like the kinda girl you can hang with, whether you're a girl or a guy. She could hold her own drinkin' with the guys at the bar or shopping for cute clothes and then gushing about cute guys over margaritas with the girls. But the video for "Hips Don't Lie" is painful to me. Will someone please tell that woman that bouncing your breasts around like that is not good for them and is, in fact, the thing that makes them sag down to your kneecaps? Because dayam, every time I see that video, mine ache from the mistreatment she hands hers. Seriously. OW.

Also, that girl in Evanescence - and yes, I am just so hopelessly uncool that I don't know her name and must refer to her as "that girl in Evanescence" - is really beautiful.

I got a very brief email today from Jonny-C, who is in Florence. Or Firenze, as the Eye-talians call their fair city. Jonny-C calls it the anti-LA. I can understand that. I pretty much think of Paris as the same. LA is a total anathema to me, at this point. I can only imagine how much more intense shall be my hatred of the city once I return there. It's an ugly, hot, smoggy, blocky cultural black hole of suckiness. ::sigh::

"Anathema" was the word of the day at Dictionary.com on March 19, 2004, btw. Every once in a while I use a word and am suddenly stricken with self-doubt and convinced I just used it utterly incorrectly and am compelled to look it up. So it just was with "anathema".

I hate Justin Timberlake an unbelievable amount, btw. What is up with this ridiculous disco obsession thing he has going? And why must we be subjected to it? I only *thought* I hated "Sexy Back," apparently, because "Rock Your Body" makes me want to find him, punch him, and then throw up all over him. I would rather listen to the BeeGees for an entire day then suffer through this frigging song one more time. And I think those of you who know me at all know how much I just said.

It rained during the day today, so when that stopped around 6:30, I packed up and headed to Notre Dame for some night shots. While I was taking pictures in the place, I ended up talking to 3 guys who were sitting on the seatwall, just hanging out and drinking wine or cognac, which people do here on a nice night, though it's usually either the youth or tourists. Parisians don't really do it. These guys were 2 Italians - one of whom was a dead ringer for Antonio Banderas - and an Algerian who lives in the States. We talked about the differences in American and European culture for about an hour while I took pictures, and then I made my way around the back of the cathedral and then down to the quai. I shot some stuff there, and then as I was leaving, a girl of about 19 waylaid me and wanted to know why I wasn't taking her picture with her friends, as they were typical young french people. I said well, I didn't think it would be polite, but she wasn't having any of that, so I ended up taking several pictures of them all and then getting an email address to send them to. They invited me to a demonstration tomorrow, but somehow I just don't think it's a good idea for me to be protesting the french government right now, especially on the subject of illegal immigration. Especially given my own views on immigration. I mean, really. It would probably make good pictures, though.

Crap. Speaking of tomorrow, I just realized it's after 6:30 in the morning here. I have to get to bed. Especially if I'm planning on doing something boneheaded like getting myself arrested and deported at 2.

Peace out,
Katie

ps. 9/30/06 - i have since discovered that "that girl in evanescence" is named amy lee. this was entirely by accident and not through any active googling on my part, but in the interest of full disclosure, i thought i'd share. also, i have a stomach virus and feel like i got hit by a truck this morning. a really vicious truck containing toxic waste. :(
