My brother is graduating from college with a teaching credential and all A's on Saturday, August 13!!! :) I'm really proud of him. It was really important to him to finish, and something he's been trying to do for a really long time, and he did it with a family to support and at an accellerated rate, even with the fact that his faculty advisor back in the day had failed to file his degree plan, so they piled extra courses on him to suit the new and updated catalog for his degree. And he *still* got all A's, despite always having lackluster grades in the past. When we were kids, I got the "why can't you be the perfect child like your brother" lectures, and he always got the "why can't you make straight A's like your sister" lectures, so it's really gratifying to see he pulled it off with excellent grades. :) And he can finally get a teaching-coaching job, which is what he has wanted to do with his life for like, basically all of it. But he got married junior year (of college) and moved full-time into the well-paying part-time job he had at the time, meaning to go back to school later, and then they got pregnant twice, and what with everything that happens in life, he never got to finish until now, so I'm really happy and a proud big sister. :) My brother RULEZ! 'Course, now my parents can resume the "why aren't you the perfect child like your brother" lectures, only they will be the "when are you going to finish your degree like your brother" lecture. Joy. I got nothin' else. I did have, but then my mom called to tell me about my brother and make plans for me to fly home for his graduation ceremony, and then I called him, and we had a good long talk, which we haven't done in a long time (during which, among other things, we exchanged parental coping tips - for like, you know, coping with our parents, not coping as parents - and agreed on the fact that physicists tend to suck at explaining things at the lay level, so despite having a brilliant physicist as a father, and much as both of us would have liked to, neither of us managed to finish Hawking's Brief History of Time), so I'm all chatted out, now. :) Peace out, copyright 2002
