Ya know, it's kinda funny. You spend a shift working on a national holiday, and the store gets utterly trashed because people are fundamentally pigs with no respect for stuff that does not belong to them, so you spend that shift kind of dealing with the fact that you really hate people, then you leave your shift at 10pm, right at the end of the big fireworks display a block away, for which people came and parked at your place of work, so you can't get your car out for half an hour, and while you are standing there thinking how much that sucks, because you're tired and haven't eaten, and it's hot and muggy, so you'd really like something to drink while you're forced to stand hostage to the flood of vehicles streaming past your car and letting no one back out, the people next to you salvage the entire night just by asking you if you'd like something cold to drink as they too sit and wait for traffic to clear. Not only that, but they also shared their pizza with me, and the son put Earth, Wind & Fire on the stereo system and opened all the doors to let out the sound, so while we were sitting there in the muggy air, we had cold water and cool tunes. It was awesome. :) I sat on the curb between our vehicles, and they talked to me and the older couple on the other side, and we all had a pleasant half hour while we waited. And I thought that despite the major malfunction of this country and its government these days, there are times when I'm really happy to be a part of America. For all the ways we can be assholes, we can also be big friendly, floppy puppies, too. And it's times like that that make life worth living. So I hope everyone had a safe, happy 4th of July, and that your weekend will also pass smoothly and well. Peace out, copyright 2002
