Face has had a downturn and is going home to hospice care for the time that he has left. I can't tell you how my heart is breaking. Kate has been one of the best friends in the world to me, even from 3,000 miles away, and further, when I was in Paris. She has sent me care packages and words of encouragement, and been there in a way few people are for a virtual stranger, and she did it all while juggling the serious stresses of her own life and a child suffering with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, who was probably in hospitals at least as much time as he was out of them, but who fought like a champ to keep growing and living. That kid has so much joy and strength in him, we could all learn some serious lessons. He also has the heart of a lion, if only the organ itself knew it. He gets that from his mom. I love that kid more than I thought you could love a kid you've only seen in video, and I love his mom, and I hate that I can't do anything to fix this, to halt the terrible march of time, to give them every single minute of joy that a lifetime would provide. It's so freaking unfair, I can't stand it. So again I'm asking you to please send your thoughts and prayers to Kate and Face and their family. I don't know how else to end this, other than to say thank you for your compassion. Katie copyright 2002
